Red Death Drink Recipe

by Eduard Anselme

The Red Death drink is an alcoholic beverage with three different color layers. It’s very cool looking and kind of fun to drink. I’ll describe how it’s made first and then give you the recipe.

What is Red Death Drink?

The Red Death cocktail is a pretty simple drink. It’s made with equal parts gin, vodka, and tequila, plus a dash of bitters and a splash of dry vermouth. The ingredients are shaken together in a cocktail shaker with ice, then strained into a chilled martini glass.

It’s named after the famous Edgar Allan Poe story “The Masque of the Red Death,” in which Prince Prospero hosts a ball to avoid being contaminated by the plague (the titular Red Death). The guests all wear masks to hide their identities from each other, but they all die anyway because the prince’s food and drink was poisoned.

So this is basically just an excuse to drink alcohol while wearing a mask—which sounds like fun!

What is in a red death drink?

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz gin
  • 1 oz tequila
  • 1 oz rum
  • 1 oz triple sec

How to make a red death drink

  1. Pour all ingredients, except for the triple sec, into a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well and strain into a martini glass.
  3. Top with the triple sec and serve!

Tips

Tip 1: Use the best ingredients possible

The most important tip for making the Red Death cocktail is to use the best ingredients possible. If you skimp on the quality of your ingredients, your drink will not be as good.

Try to get fresh-squeezed citrus juices and fresh mint leaves when making this cocktail. You want to make sure that you are using high-quality products because they will be what makes or breaks your drink!

Tip 2: Use a high-quality vodka

When selecting vodka for this cocktail, it’s best if you choose something that is distilled four times. This means that the vodka has been filtered through charcoal four times before being bottled up and sold to consumers. The more times vodka is distilled, the smoother it will be in taste and texture. So if you don’t have access to any “premium” vodkas in your area, try asking around at bars around town until someone can point you toward one or two brands that are worth trying out!

Storage

Here are some tips for storing your Red Death cocktail drink:

  • Keep it in the refrigerator until it’s time to serve. Chilled drinks taste better, and they’re easier on your stomach if you’re planning a long night.
  • Don’t store it in a dark or warm place, as that could affect the flavor of your drink. We recommend keeping it out of direct sunlight but not in a dark cupboard or drawer.

Health Benefits

Red Death cocktail drink has a lot going for it. But we just have to ask: are you sure you’re ready for the benefits?
