It is an authentic Southern dish that’s delicious and easy to make. The best part is, you can make it in less than an hour!

Stuffed chicken is a classic comfort food dish that’s been enjoyed for generations in the South. It’s made from a combination of chicken breast, rice, and stuffing—usually sausage or mushrooms—which makes it pretty hearty.

This recipe is a remake of one of my favorite dishes at Ruth Chris’s restaurant in San Diego, CA. It’s a great option when you’re looking for something quick but also want something that tastes as good as it seems.

Ingredients

For the chicken:

  • 1.5 lbs chicken breast, pounded thin
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • Herb seasoning mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt
  • Italian seasoning
  • Pepper
  • 1 cup bread crumbs (I used panko)
  • 3 tsp garlic powder

For the sauce:

  • 1/4 cup butter (or margarine), melted
  • 1/4 cup flour, mixed with 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 cups chicken stock or broth (I used low sodium chicken broth)

How to make Ruth Chris Stuffed Chicken (instructions)

This is an easy dish you can prepare in a fraction of the time it takes to cook a traditional whole chicken. All you need are a few simple ingredients, some time on your hands, and a little patience.

Step 1: Seasoning Your Chicken Breast

Seasoning your chicken breast is a great way to add flavor to your dish. You can season the outside of the chicken breast or even just season it in the middle of the chicken breast if you prefer. Here are some of our favorite seasoning combinations:

  • Salt and pepper: salt and pepper both add flavor to your dish, so these two ingredients go great together!
  • Herb seasoning mix: try mixing up a fresh herb seasoning mix for your chicken breasts—they’re easy to make and are full of flavor!
  • Garlic salt: garlic salt is one of those things that everyone has in their kitchen cabinet; it’s good on salads, burgers and everything else too!
  • Italian seasoning: try sprinkling Italian seasoning on top of your chicken breasts before roasting them—this will bring out all kinds of great flavors!

Seasoning:

  1. Mix your salt and pepper. This mixture should be enough to season the chicken evenly.
  2. Rub the seasoning mixture over both sides of the chicken breast until it is evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.

Step 2: Adding Stuffing

Using your hands, generously stuff the chicken cavity with all of its stuffing ingredients until it is full—don’t overstuff it or you’ll end up with a soggy product! Use extra stuffing in any areas that might have gaps between drumsticks; this will help ensure even cooking throughout your stuffed chicken.

Step 3: Wrapping, Baking and Serving

  • To wrap your chicken, place the chicken in a pan and surround it with foil. Fold the sides over the top and secure with a couple of toothpicks.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Remove from oven, let rest for 5 minutes, then cut into pieces and serve!

Storage

The best way to store Stuffed Chicken is by wrapping it in foil, placing it in a plastic bag, and refrigerating. This will keep it fresh for 3 to 4 days, but you can also freeze it for up to 3 months.

Reheating

When you’re reheating your Stuffed Chicken, it’s important to remember that you don’t want to burn your food. So instead of turning up the heat and heating the pan until it’s red hot, let’s just talk about what not to do:

  • Don’t put the chicken back in the microwave. It will cook unevenly and you’ll end up with a piece that is underdone and another that is overcooked.
  • Don’t let it sit too long at room temperature—the cheese will start to get rubbery, and who wants that?
  • Don’t wrap it in foil or use tin foil—that stuff isn’t meant for food! Plus, if you do use foil, try to avoid using those shiny foil sheets—they’re not as sturdy as regular foil!

What to do:

1. Place chicken in a large pot and cover with water.

2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. (This is to remove excess salt from the chicken.)

3. If using foil, place in the oven at 350 degrees F for 45-60 minutes or until warmed through and juices run clear when pierced with a knife.

How many calories are in Ruth Chris’s stuffed chicken breast?

It contains only 1,500 calories and 18 g of fat, so you can eat as much as you want without worrying about the grams of fat or calories.

The chicken breast consists of white meat with no skin. While it is not typical for a chicken dish to have this much fat, it is still less than half the fat from other meats like beef or pork.

The breast also has more than 5 times more protein than most other proteins and nearly 50% more iron than most other proteins.

How much is Ruth Chris stuffed chicken breast?

It can be found in the meat department of your local grocery store. The price is around $29, so it is not a cheap meal, but it is absolutely delicious!

What is stuffed chicken made of?

Well, it depends on who you ask. Some people think that stuffed chicken is made out of chicken, while others believe it’s made out of a combination of chicken and other ingredients.

What we do know for sure is that the word “stuffed” implies that there will be more stuffing than actual chicken in the dish.

Conclusion

This Ruth Chris stuffed chicken recipe is a great one for family or company meals and will leave the family asking for more. This is perhaps not the most healthy recipe, so you will have to balance the two.
